In light of the recent election and the constant chatter going on as a result, it’s very easy to lose sight of the all the reasons those of us who are believers have to be thankful – regardless of what is happening in the world around us. No matter the current atmosphere of division and continual negative outlooks and reports, we have the report of the Lord! He is Lord over all and our peace and prosperity are not found in this world.

I understand we live in this world and all that is going on around us affects our circumstances, but remember there are no circumstances our God cannot use for our good and for His glory. Of all people, we have every reason to be thankful. Our hope is in the eternal everlasting God of heaven and earth. He has given us access to heaven through His son Jesus Christ, and while we wait to obtain our heavenly citizenship, we do not wait alone.

God has deposited His Holy Spirit within us to guide and lead us into all truth. He is our shield and defender and our very great reward. Therefore we should live in this world with Christ confidence and hope regardless of the circumstances.

May I encourage you to turn your eyes toward heaven and fix your eyes on Jesus, “the author and finisher of your faith?” The circumstances in Washington, DC, the circumstances in your personal life and relationships, the circumstances in your health, finances, or any other situation in your life right now do not negate the greatness of our God and His infinite wisdom.

Gratitude flows from a heart that has been painstakingly cultivated to produce a harvest of thanksgiving – regardless of the difficulty and disappointments. Just as a garden must be plowed and cleared, planted, watered, and weeded to produce a harvest, your heart must be labored over and disciplined to yield thanks. Have you been distracted and neglectful concerning your heart condition? Are you nourishing it consistently with the seed of God’s truth and soaking it in living water?

At a time of great personal struggle in his own life and ministry, Paul wrote these words to encourage and guide believers. They are for you and me today.

Rejoice always … regardless of the circumstances, nothing can touch the joy Jesus puts in the life of His child. His joy is able to sustain and lift us over the pain and suffering.

Pray without ceasing … persistently and regularly call on His name in faith. Don’t stop when the circumstances fall apart and the problems stack up. He is listening. He will move in His perfect time and His all wise way.

In everything give thanks … discipline yourself to open your mouth and say “thank you” when your heart is breaking and nothing seems right. How? Why? Because …

This is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:18

Obeying His word and living in His will is the certain place to find the abundance of blessing that flows from a man or woman who honors God.  I pray you will be filled with thanksgiving today!
